Understanding Heavy Metal Toxicity
Heavy metal exposure happens in our daily lives through the water we consume or the polluted air we breathe. It is also in the industrial chemicals that can be found in our cosmetics, medicine and food as well as other sources, which may cause health issues.
Long-term exposure can interrupt the functions of several organs in our body, especially our kidneys, brain, reproductive system, gastrointestinal, nervous system and liver. These may lead to common symptoms of heavy metal toxicity such as headaches, nausea, vomiting, joint and muscle pain, constipation, and fatigue.
Generally, our body can naturally eliminate these harmful substances through liver detoxification. However, when the amount of harmful substances become overwhelming, they will remain in our body and lead to intoxication. At this stage, our body’s natural detoxification system is no longer sufficient; hence external supplementation is needed to aid detoxification.
