What is Melasma & What You Can Do About it

What is Melasma?

Melasma is a type of hyperpigmentation of brown or greyish-blue patches that sometimes look like clusters of freckles.

It normally appears on the face such as the cheek area, forehead, upper lip and the bridge of the nose, and can also appear in parts of your body that get the most sun exposure.

Melasma is not harmful in any way but its appearance can cause a little distress as it is a sign of skin aging.

What Causes Melasma?

Also known as the “mask of pregnancy” due to the overproduction of melanin, which is responsible for the color pigment of our skin. This often happens when there are changes in hormone levels, especially during pregnancy. However, men can also experience melasma though it is much more common in women.

It can also be triggered by oral contraceptive medication, and of course by sun exposure too.

Exposure to harmful UV rays is one of the major contributors to melasma and age spots. This is why wearing sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is essential to minimize its effects.

What Melasma Treatments Are Available?

As mentioned earlier, sunscreen is a crucial step to add to your skincare routine (if you haven’t already) if you want to minimize and prevent the formation of melasma or dark patches on your skin. Another thing that you can do is to minimize your time outdoors especially when the sun is out.

However, besides these prevention methods, there are a few available treatments for existing melasma. You can reduce the appearance of melasma on your skin by carrying out a few dermatological treatments that include chemical peels or laser therapy. These will require a few sessions before you see results and sometimes, these treatments will cause skin sensitivity, irritation and inflammation.

MF3 Melasma DNA Corrector

Introducing the Melasma DNA Corrector by MF3, a high-precision, roll-on-concentrate applicator that visibly reduces the appearance of dark spots including Melasma.

If you’re thinking of an alternative to chemical peels and lasers, the Melasma DNA Corrector is an ideal solution to your hyperpigmentation woes.

It provides a unique, deep-down action on the two origins of dark spots and aging pigments without the adverse effects of harsh treatments.

Its dark-spot fighting ingredients include Liquorice extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Stable Vitamin C, and Hexylresorcinol, which work together to actively decrease melanin synthesis, whereas a generous supply of micro-encapsulated Olive extract potently blocks the formation of aging pigments caused by constant exposure to the sun and premature skin-aging.

With time, dark spots are visibly diminished, erasing all the signs of skin aging to reveal a fascinating, translucent complexion.
